LIMERICK TDs printed more than 70,000 A4 2016 calendars for their constituents using Oireachtas services, with two Limerick representatives printing 30,000 each, it has been revealed.

The figures were published by the Irish Times, following documents received under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.

According to the figures, Fianna Fáil TD Niall Collins and Fine Gael TD Kieran O’Donnell both printed 30,000 A4 calendars, while Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan printed 11,500 for his constituents.

The Oireachtas ‘in-house’ printing services allows members to print individualised Christmas cards and documents for their constituents, every year.

Deputy Collins’ and Deputy O’Donnell’s figure is the second highest of the 22 Oireachtas members, according to the Irish Times, behind Independent Senator Averil Power, who printed a total of 73,000 A4 calendars.

Reacting to the story, Niall Collins told the Limerick Leader: “The Oireachtas printing service is available to us. It’s one of the services that are offered, and people like to avail of it. It’s as simple as that. [The process] is the same as all the other material that we have printed. It’s the same as having our stationary printed. It’s part of the service which is available to TDs.”
