LIMERICK’S most famous young entrepreneurs, John and Patrick Collison, have been named as the EY Entrepreneurs of the Year.

The founders of Stripe, the online payments company, were named the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year at the televised awards ceremony held in Dublin recently.

Over 1,500 business leaders from across Ireland and around the world attended the event to celebrate the achievements of the 24 finalists who, collectively employ over 5,000 people and last year generated revenues exceeding €1.4billion.

Founded in 2010 by the brothers from Castletroy, Stripe, a technology platform that developers use to build internet businesses, will now go forward to represent Ireland at the World Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards in Monte Carlo in June 2016 where they will compete with over 60 leading entrepreneurs from across the globe.

Thousands of businesses – ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies – rely on Stripe’s software tools to securely accept payments, expand globally, and create new revenue streams.

Anne Heraty, chairperson of the judging panel, said “Stripe has disrupted the world of online payments growing at an unprecedented pace for an Irish company in an industry that had previously been dominated by major players in the market. These innovative brothers, having raised €300 million to date, aim to accelerate global economic and technological development”. In addition to being selected as the overall winner of EY Entrepreneur Of The Year for 2015, Stripe were also named International Entrepreneur Of The Year.
