LEADING toy retailer Toys ‘R’ Us is to open at the Parkway Retail Park this Saturday in a move which will create 35 jobs.
Mayor Liam Galvin will be on hand to cut the ribbon at the new store, which the American toy giant secured the lease on only last month.
There will also be a free family fun day to mark the opening.
Kicking off at 10am, the star of the show will be a giant walking interactive robot, plus an animal roadshow petting zoo.
On top of this, there will be face-painting and balloon modelling as well as attractions inside and outside the store.
Store manager Jawad Akhtar said: “We’ve been looking for the right store in Limerick for some time so we are delighted to now be here with a great team of new staff ready to enjoy the Christmas festivities in Parkway Retail Park.”
The company says it is expecting to see big trade in lego, as well as toys relating to the Star Wars, Shopkins and Frozen franchises in the run up to Christmas.
Toys R’ Us is taking over a vacant unit measuring 17,800 square metres in Limerick, and will be paying a rent of €200,000 a year.
Toys R’ Us is planning on opening 10 new stores in the Republic as it seeks to compete with Smyth’s Toys on its home turf.
The main Limerick outlet of Smyth’s is at the Childers Road retail park, just around the corner from retail park that will be home to Toys R’ Us.
The store is the second Toys ‘R’ Us to open in the Republic of Ireland.
