THE Shannon Group has confirmed the start of a major €21m redevelopment programme at the Shannon Free Zone, which it is hoped will help attract investment to the site.

THE Shannon Group has confirmed the start of a major €21m redevelopment programme at the Shannon Free Zone, which it is hoped will help attract investment to the site.

The five year programme by the Shannon Group’s property arm Shannon Commercial Properties involves the construction of manufacturing units and office blocks as well as the upgrade of some of its existing buildings.

Some 250 jobs in construction will be created as a result.

The plan is focussed on delivering a stock of high quality, advanced manufacturing, warehousing and office space solutions which will aid state development agencies attract new business and jobs to the Airport and Free Zone.

As part of the initial phase of development on this site, two projects are planned at a combined cost of in excess of €10m.

These include a 40,000 square foot grade A office block and a 30,000 square foot advanced technology manufacturing unit.

Work on the site has already begun with the demolition of three former manufacturing buildings of approximately 300,000 square feet and planning applications for the two new buildings are due to be submitted shortly.

Other key projects in the first phase include a technology manufacturing facility at the Shannon Free Zone.

On top of this, there will also be €4m upgrade of an existing 100,000 square foot warehousing unit on the lands, plus a €1.3m refurbishment of a second warehousing facility.
