AN online database featuring more than 70,000 records of burials in Mount St Lawrence cemetery is to be launched this Tuesday.

Mayor Kathleen Leddin will unveil the database, which, for the first time, gives a comprehensive overview of who is buried in the city graveyard.

Three years in the planning, the project comes following a link-up between Limerick City Council, the City Archives and Mary Immaculate College.

Some of Limerick’s most famous people are buried in Mount St Lawrence cemetery, including freedom fighter Sean South.

The launch takes place at 5pm this Tuesday in the Georgian House, at No 2 Pery Square.
