LIMERICK has been dealth a jobs blow after Chadwick’s confirmed it will close its city store next week.

The shop, which supplies a variety of items for the home including showers, solar panels, velux windows, heating supplies, insulation and hardwood flooring, will close on Friday, June 22.

12 people work at the store, which is located at Punches Cross just off the Childers’ Road.

The chain, which is part of the Grafton group, has around 20 outlets nationwide. The closure of Chadwicks is the second blow the city has suffered in the last week in the retail sector.

Last Wednesday, around 20 jobs were put at risk after Atlantic Homecare, based on the Childers Road, was placed in examinership.

Its Limerick store was named as one of the five worst performing in the country and is facing closure.

The DIY chain, which has a store in the Childers Road, has been loss making since 2007, with its losses over this time amounting to €21m.

The High Court is set to appoint an examiner to the firm this Friday, June 15.
