THERE were celebrations for the owners of six Mace convenience stores across Limerick after they were recognised at a special awards ceremony.
Mace stores in Annacotty, Monaleen, Raheen, the Singland Road, Shanagolden and Ballylanders, received an excellence award at a ceremony held recently in the Sheraton Athlone Hotel.
In order to get these awards, the family-owned stores had to comply with a strict set of criteria.
This involved their stores being constantly monitored throughout the year in areas such as shop presentation, food safety and legal compliance.
The assessment also involves ‘surprise’ audits which are carried out on an ongoing basis throughout the year by mystery shoppers, as well as Mace staff to ensure standards are upheld.
The successful Mace stores in the city were: Noone’s branches in Annacotty and Monaleen, and Barron’s branches in Raheen and the Singland Road.
Managing director of BWG Foods, which owns and operates the Mace brand in Ireland, Willie O’Byrne congratulated the Limerick businesses.
“These awards apply to those who, through their commitment to the highest retail standards and customer service, continue to help the network outperform it’s peers. I would like to congratulate our Mace retailers who have not only demonstrated resilience in managing their businesses in tough conditions but who have excelled in raising store standards. These are positive reinforcements for the Mace brand and sets a challenging benchmark for the remainder of 2012,” he said.
Mace sales director Alex Banahan added: “It is great credit to Mace retailers and staff that the standards continue to improve year on year and I am particularly pleased with the significant improvement in customer service mystery shopper audits overall.”
Mace is the longest established convenience brand in Ireland with 50 years service to communities.
