AFTER 16 days occupying Ivan’s store in Caherdavin, the 30 staff have secured their redundancy entitlements.
A receiver has formally been appointed to the landmark general store, and this means workers are now able to avail of statutory redundancy.
On Thursday night, the staff met with the receiver, Ger Holliday of BDO, and employments rights advisor Frank McDonnell, who has assisted them throughout, said: “They were very pleased with the outcome”.
Following the store’s out-of-the-blue closure on January 19, workers decided to barricade themselves into the store until their requests for back pay and key documents which allow them to claim social welfare had been met.
Over their 16 days in the store, they have received support from local businesses, who have supplied food and drink to them.
One worker - who did not wish to be identified - said any disappointment in store founder Ivan Cremins had now receded.
