A SERIES of initiatives designed to support sustainable transport are set to be unveiled this week.

To mark European Mobility Week, which kicks off today, a new web site for Limerick’s Smarter Travel initiative will be launched, at www.limericksmartertravel.ie.

It includes a cycle planner application, while there will also be a number of school transport workshops taking place to mark the continent-wide initiative.

An initiative named: ‘Our Streets Our Choice’, runs from tomorrow until next Monday, September 22.

The week has been planned to support those hoping to continue healthy urban mobility habits.

“During Granny’s visit the streets of Limerick were vibrant, full of energy and life,” said Pat O’Neill, project manager, Limerick Smarter Travel. “People embraced walking, cycling, public transport and car-sharing while travelling in and around the city. The difference our choices made to our streets was breath-taking. It was clear to see, there’s strength in numbers, our travel choices really do add up which is what European Mobility Week is all about.”

As part of Culture Night, which takes place on Friday, Park and Picnic Pods will be set up. At Mortell’s in Roches Street, the pod will play host to a celebration bringing to life cafe culture and sustainable urban mobility.
