Train journey times to be cut

IARNROD Eireann has announced plans to reduce journey times between Heuston Station in Dublin and Limerick’s Colbert Station.

IARNROD Eireann has announced plans to reduce journey times between Heuston Station in Dublin and Limerick’s Colbert Station.

The company is proposing to upgrade most of its inter-city rail network over the next four years.

If approved by government, the works, which will cost around €35 million a year, will see journey times between Limerick and the capital reduce by 16 minutes to around two hours by 2016.

Iarnrod Eireann says it needs to upgrade its rail network due to the improved quality of the country’s motorway network.
