THE SEASIDE village of Kilkee, long popular with Limerick holidaymakers, saw one of the largest crowds of the season gather recently to watch the annual Pat Lawler diving competition at the diving boards at Newfoundout - or ‘Newfie’ as it is known.
In near perfect conditions, the many divers displayed their skill while hundreds watched from the sea, the cliffs and roadway above, with the young and not-so-young divers keeping everyone entertained throughout the competition, as they used both the diving boards and the lower ledge to display their wares.
The younger divers of note included Colm Blackwell, Niall Mulcahy and David Roche, while the skilled adults included Bobby Roche, Brian O’Donovan and Jack Dineen. David Roche won the junior section with his father coming third in the adult section.
Kilkee Rescue Service provided cover for the event though their assistance was not needed as everything went well for this year’s event.
