KILEELY rapper Jason Reddan, aka Jay Red, has filmed the video for his new EP in Las Vegas.
Jay described his single ‘The Lights’, as a “very positive and inspirational track” - and this is why he went to what he feels is the brightest city on earth.
He also worked with Trim DJ and producer Johnny Pluse while in Las Vegas.
Jay’s trip was financed through his family, and the Moyross Residents Alliance, he said, and fans of his will be able to see the fruits of his labour when the video is uploaded to You Tube in two weeks.
Over ten days, Jay filmed mainly on the Las Vegas Strip, as well as in Caeser’s Palace, and Planet Hollywood.
His second single ‘The Episode’ was put together with the help of Johnny Pluse, after Jay contacted him with some samples.
When the EP is released towards the end of this month, Jay added he will be giving half the money to charity.
But he has not decided exactly which one yet.
Over the next week, Jay will be putting the final touches to the video by filming segments in Trim, Co Meath, and parts of Limerick.
Asked why he chose to film in Vegas, Jay said: “The metaphor of the song is that if you can keep your heads to the light, you don’t pay attention to the negative people around you. It is all about chasing your dream. A Limerick MC is keeping is head to the light, and looking to make it. And what better place to make it than the brightest city in the world? It is a dream come true for me to end up in the brightest city in the world.”
One of the people also featured in his video is Cork-born singer Valerie Deedy.
The meeting between the pair, Jay said was through chance.
“She was skateboarding around town: I met her through skateboarding friends. She told me she sings, so I asked her to try out for one of my tracks, and she nailed it when I gave her the chorus,” he explained.
Jay Red’s EP is set to be released at the end of the month.
It will be available through Itunes, while the video for his first single ‘The Lights’ will be uploaded to YouTube.
