MORE than 100 dignitaries and local people were at Corpus Christi School for the launch of the first definitive history of Moyross.

Mayorstone writer, the former Mayor of Limerick was commissioned to write a book focusing on the history of the parish.

And the result is a 134 page book focusing on a number of memorable aspects of Moyross, including the characters, the community leaders, and the sporting heroes.

Paying tribute to those who work tirelessly in the community - including Tina O’Gorman who recently raised her one millionth euro for charity - Mr Prendergast said: “In any other country, if they were in Britain for example, there is no doubt they would have received civic honours, like an OBE or an MBE. I was overwhelmed by the wonderful boundless generosity of the ordinary people whom I met there.”

Development worker Tracey McElligott who compered the event, said: “It is a lovely book, and I think it depicts Moyross in a great light. It is the story so far: there is a huge community here, there is a great community spirit. With the regeneration and demolition, it looks like a community has been wiped out. But it is not: there is still a great community here, a very vibrant and strong community which will be sustained in the future.”

The books are still available, priced €10. For a copy, contact Jude Meaney on 087-6882050.
