COUNTRY singing sensation Mike Denver is to headline a fundraiser in aid of Irish Country Music Radio.com, an online radio station based in Limerick and transmitting around the world.
Denver will appear in the Greenhills Hotel next Tuesday to headline the concert, funds from which will go toward the online radio station, based in Annacotty Business Park, which is run on a purely voluntary basis, but broadcasts to listeners around the world.
“The fundraiser is to raise funds to maintain the station,” explained Mary Gordon, a DJ on the popular internet station, which plays country music.
“This is how we get sponsorship, because we don’t have advertising as such. It a self-maintained, voluntary, 24/7 internet station, with around 22 presenters that do their shows voluntarily. I do personally do one every week for nine hours, called Country Corner,” added Mary.
The site is the brainchild of Pat Garrett-Butler and his son Mark, and is immensely popular with DJs and listeners alike, all over the world, as Mary explained.
“A lot of the DJs have their own studios - we have some in Canada and Australia, would you believe, but the main studio is in the Annacotty Business Park,” explained Mary.
“We have a great listenership around the country, in the UK, in Canada, Australia, the United States, New Zealand. It is very unique in that there is almost a one to one connection, in that you feel like people are actually sitting in the studio with you, it is amazing, I can’t describe it,” she added.
The station relies on donations from listeners to continue to operate, and will host the fundraiser in the Greenhills next Tuesday, featuring country singing sensation Mike Denver, with support from Eddie Keogh from Fedamore.
Tickets will be available on the door, with doors open from 9pm, and a raffle will also take place.
