DUBLIN’S rockabilly queen Imelda May has been confirmed for a Dolan’s Presents ‘Live At The Big Top’ show in Limerick’s Milk Market, on Sunday, June 5.

May will be joined by a full band in Limerick’s newest outdoor, multi-use venue, and follows quickly on the heels of The Coronas, who played a storming show in the venue on the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Local music venue Dolan’s are to put on the large-scale gig in the modern, all-weather facility under the 1.8 tonne, half acre canopy, or “Ireland’s largest tent” as architect Michael Healy has described it.

1500 Coronas fans packed into the 200-year old market which was redeveloped to the tune of €2 million last year, the gig being the first such large scale live music event in the historic market.

The gig, which was run by Dolan’s, was expected to be the first of many in the historic market, and securing Imelda May at short notice - likely due to the cancellation of the Cold Pro festival in Miltown Malbay - is something of a coup for the venue.

May is hugely popular both locally and nationally, achieving triple-platinum status in Ireland and gold status in the UK, and has just confirmed that Decca Records will release her second album, Mayhem, in America. The rockabilly singer is well known in the States, where she recently appeared on The Tonight Show and at the Grammy Awards ceremony.

The Coronas gig in the Milk Market was something of a test outing for Dolan’s, who have an agreement with the venue to stage live shows there, and it ran off without any problems, showing that the market is more than capable of hosting a live gig. In fact, the venue proved to be a top class one, with the large, canopied roof keeping the sound in and adding to the atmosphere. The Limerick Leader understands that this will be the first of several gigs in the venue, presuming their continued success.

Gates for the June 5 gig will open at 7.30pm - and food stalls and bars will be open on the night. It is an over 18s show and tickets priced at €30 including booking are on sale from Friday morning, see www.dolanspub.com for more details.
