SHE has always wanted to strut her stuff on the catwalk and now Kathleen McDonagh is living the dream!
Thanks to Limerick model agent Celia Holman Lee, the 20-year-old is embarking on a career as a model – and she has already enjoyed her catwalk debut, in front of 2,000 people no less.
“She has it – there is no doubt about that, it’s just to get her out there now,” said Celia of the raven-haired beauty.
Celia became acquainted with Kathleen through the RTE Two programme Meet the McDonaghs which also features Kathleen’s sister Kelly who came to national prominence on The Voice of Ireland.
“I got a call to know if I would talk to her as all she ever wanted to do was to model. I was aware of her sister from The Voice. I went and I met them and I thought they were the most lovely, sincere, kind and beautiful family,” Celia added.
A native of Fermoy, Kathleen is married to Limerickman Dave Curtin. The couple who have one child Kayceline who will celebrate her first birthday next month plan on setting up home in Limerick to facilitate Kathleen’s modelling career.
“Last season she had just got married and she had a baby. There was no point training her up until she was ready. I trained her up recently and she was really terrific. She had her first photoshoot on the series last week,” said Celia.
And Kathleen’s first impression of the modelling world?
“I love it,” she smiled. “I always wanted to do it and I’m living the dream now. I did the Rose of Tralee fashion show and I’m doing something again on Thursday night. I loved the Rose of Tralee show. I was very nervous – you can tell from the documentary that I was nervous but by the end then I was delighted with it.”
On Tuesday night’s episode of Meet the McDonaghs, Celia put Kathleen through her paces ahead of her big catwalk debut in front of 2,000 people in Tralee.
And the outspoken model agent – who is known for calling it as it is - was as direct as ever in her approach telling the teenager that her long hair pieces had to go. “She has the most divine head of jet black hair but she had these hairpieces stuck on the top of her head,” Celia explained.
“She had no problem stripping it back, taking off the hair, taking off the make-up, just being herself,” she said.
“It was not a bother to her –she really, really wants it. She has everything. She is now doing work with us.”
Kathleen, who admires Beyonce, said she is “thrilled” to be working with Celia. “Celia has been very good - she has given me a lot of advice on walking, hair and make-up. She is a wonderful woman.”
