WITH almost half a century of modelling experience under her belt, Limerick’s highest authority on fashion, Celia Holman Lee, has added another accolade to her resume having mentored the winner of Simply Be Curvy 2015.
Over 4,000 ladies applied to take part in the competition with only 12 getting through to the bootcamp, highlights of which were shown on TV3’s Xpose last week as well as on the Simply Be Ireland YouTube channel.
Along with Celia, the mentors included hairdresser to the stars, Michael Leong, celebrity makeup artist Zoe Clarke, and fashion stylist Sonja Mohlich.
Each mentor worked with three women before eventually choosing one woman from their team to go forward to the grand final.
“I came back from the Ploughing Championships like a wet rag after being up at five o’clock every morning to get on site. I didn’t think I had a chance in hell of winning because I felt in my head I needed to be more focused but when I saw my three girls, I said I have a chance here,” Celia explained.
“On the first day, I felt I didn’t get enough out of the girls but on day three I thought to myself ‘I think we could take this’ and I decided to bloody fight for it and we fought for it and we got it.”
The lucky lady who was unveiled as the new Simply Be cover girl was basketball coach Emer Foley from Bray, who always dreamt of being a model and cites Tyra Banks as her idol “and the most beautiful woman I have ever seen”.
“There were four of us and we had to fight our corner in front of the judging panel and explain why our girl should win. Emer was a great choice - she is beautiful and has a real glow and is a lovely person.”
As part of her prize, Emer won a €1,000 Simply Be fashion voucher, a trip to the UK where she will strut her stuff behind the lens and grace the cover of Simply Be’s 2015 spring summer catalogue! “It is a great opportunity for Emer. She will be doing fashion shows, photo shoots, catalogues. She will be going to London to do the cover of the catalogue,” said Celia.
