THE parishioners of Crecora will be taking to the catwalk in a charity fashion show for the local church which is 150 years old this year.
The fashion show is the latest in a series of events taking place to mark the anniversary. Before Christmas, the children of the local national school produced a calendar of images of the church and grounds, which raised over €2,000.
And, last month, a Mass and cake sale in the school raised a further €1,050.
Local parish priest Fr Richie Davern has been delighted with the response to the initiative so far.
“It is a great way of bringing the community together and building on the community spirit that is already there,” he said.
Money raised from these events will go towards some refurbishment and maintenance work including the restoration of two stained glass windows. The parish also plans to do some painting and general “freshening up” in the coming months.
Local people will be taking part in the fashion show which takes place on April 3 in the Woodlands Hotel in Adare. One of those if Fr Davern himself, who says “sure, I couldn’t ask the other lads to do it if I’m not going to do it myself”.
Models from the Celia Holman Lee agency will also be there. Tickets are available from Maurice at the local shop or from the church.
“The capacity is 300 and we would expect them to go very fast,” said Fr Davern.
“It is not so much about how much we will raise, it is about giving people a chance to come together as a community,” he added
