Valerie Campbell - the mother of international supermodel Naomi Campbell - will be one of the special guests at this year’s second annual Limerick International Fashion Student Awards.

After the inaugural event last year, the student awards night - which attracted entries from around the world - has been widened to three days to become the Limerick Style Festival.

Incorporating the Limerick International Fashion Student Awards, it will run from Wednesday, October 22 to Friday, October 24.

The student awards, which this year have received sponsorship from Limerick’s city as City of Culture, amongst others, will take place on Thursday, October 23 in St. Mary’s Cathedral, with a fashion show, limited to an audience of 300 people, and awards ceremony showcasing the designs of the competing international student designers.

This year over 40 entries have been received from colleges in Ireland, all across the UK and as far afield as Dubai, India, Singapore, Argentina, Kenya, Sri Lanka and the US. The overall winner of the Limerick International Fashion Student Awards will receive a €10,000 prize sponsored by Brown Thomas and an internship with the international fashion brand Frank Lyman Design in Montreal, Canada. “We are very proud at Brown Thomas to be sponsoring this bursary for the winning student,” said Liam Dwane, manager of Brown Thomas in Limerick. “Brown Thomas is all about style and anything we can do to enhance and give focus to the incredible sense of style there is in Limerick is a great pleasure for Brown Thomas.”

Tickets, priced at 20, will be available to buy at the Limerick Leader offices at 54 O’Connell Street from October 6.
