Galvone-based Southside Boxing Academy is hosting a charity White Collar Boxing night at the Strand Hotel starting at 8pm and there are a number of intriguing match-ups on the card.

Not least the bout that pitches the two arms of state security - the gardai and the army - together in a battle for supremacy.

Rugby rivals will be trying to land blows as well when a representative from Richmond takes on a fighter from St Mary’s.

The ladies, inspired no doubt by the might Katie Taylor, are getting involved too in several contests tantalisingly labelled as Alley Cats versus Oddballs.

The academy, along with Milford Hospice and the Bawnmore Centre stand to benefit from the event which has Leo Shine as its MC.

Tickets, costing €15, are available on the door or from Gleeson’s Sports Scene
