TOP Limerick band Windings mark the release of their latest album with a launch party in Dr John’s this Sunday.

The band, fronted by Steve Ryan, have just released the superb I Am Not The Crow - which was recorded between Ireland and Hotel2Tango studios in Montreal with Efrim Menuck of Godspeed You! Black Emperor fame.

The album is only available on download and vinyl, making the 8-song collection of songs already something of a rarity. It is released local DIY label Out On A Limb records.

It is a sparkling album, reflecting both Ryan’s growing maturity as a songwriter and the band’s settled line-up as a cohesive unit.

The wistful harmonies on Something Outnumbered, twisting melodies on Sun In My Bones - boasting a searing and lengthy guitar solo - gentle piano on the Bon Iver-influenced In Need Of Some Repair and the gorgeous, Blur-reminiscent Local Broken Man in particular, will startle those fans who remember Ryan purely from his days as Giveamanakick frontman.

To mark the album’s release, Windings will perform a rare acoustic set in the Thomas Street venue, Dr John’s, this Sunday, while several guest DJs will also perform. Admission is free.

The album is out now on digital and vinyl release now from the usual locations. See Out On A Limb records for more details.
