GET your fake blood and white make-up ready - Limerick is set to host its first zombie festival.

From Thursday, September 29, to Sunday October 2, Limerick’s city streets will be overrun with hundreds of people in zombie outfits.

The event - codenamed ‘OUTBREAK’ - will see the largest zombie-themed party Limerick has ever seen.

Highlights will include zombie flash-mobs, parades, movie screenings, bands and DJs, while many city bars, restaurants and nightclubs are also set to get into the spirit of the occasion, which aims to raise money for the Cliona Ring Foundation.

Other event highlights include movie screenings, and “spooky” tours aimed at children, taking place in the Hunt Museum.

Mike McLoughlin, who has organised OUTBREAK, says the event is community-driven.

“We want to bring people together in a fun and original way, while raising money for a local charity,” he said. “Zombie festivals are growing in popularity across the world and it’s about time that Limerick has its own celebration of zombie culture too. Anyone can get dressed up as a zombie, it’s a bit of fun in fancy dress and gruesome make-up and we’re delighted to be supporting the Cliona Ring Foundation, which gives financial support to families of children who are facing life-threatening illness,” he added.

The main event in the four day festival will be a massive fancy dress “Zombie Shuffle” through the city centre streets on the evening of Saturday, October 1.

This is expected to attract thousands of gruesome zombies!
