TWO of the greats of Irish music, Dónal Lunny and Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin will perform a very special concert together in the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, UL, this Thursday night, writes Alan Owens.

Ó Súilleabháin, professor of music at the academy and a renowned composer, will team up with Lunny, a seminal figure in Irish traditional music – founding member of Planxty, The Bothy Band and Moving Hearts - and artist in residence at the academy for the past two years. The concert will mark the conclusion of the fifteenth annual Blas Summer School of Irish Traditional Music and Dance, which has been running throughout June in the UL-based academy.

Joining the duo will be Dingle singer and accordion player Séamus Begley, Roscommon fiddle and banjo player John Carty, as well as faculty members, including Niall Keegan on flute, dancer Orfhlaith Ní Bhriain and singer Sandra Joyce.

The concert takes place this Thursday in the Irish World Academy, UL, at 8pm.
