OVER 30 teams have confirmed entry to the Ring of Lough Derg BBQ competition, which takes place later this month.
The event, hosted by Flanagan’s on the Lake in conjunction with the Irish BBQ Association, will see the teams take part in a ‘Battle of the Grill’, with the winners going forward to represent Ireland in next year’s European Championships.
The teams will compete for the An Fulacht Fia Cup, with cash prizes worth €1,100 up for grabs on the day, August 29.
“I am delighted to see so many teams interested in this years event. It proves that The Ring of Lough Derg BBQ Festival is firmly on the Irish culinary map for both chefs and patrons alike,” said Cathal Quinn of Flanagan’s on the Lake.
Judges will be scoring dishes based on three main considerations; appearance, taste and texture/tenderness, while there will be a stand alone BBQ sauce category.
“This is our 6th year running the BBQ competition and it is growing from strength to strength, not just the amount of teams taking part but the quality of BBQ’ing is improving all the time,” said Ken Switzer, Vice President of the Irish BBQ association.
