AN aspiring model who cites Rihanna as her style icon has been crowned Miss Limerick Ireland World 2013.

Brunette beauty, Shauna Lindsay, 18, who resides in the city centre, was presented with the tiara and sash at the final of the glamorous contest which was held in the Parlour Bar on Thomas Street.

Standing a statuesque 5’ 10”, the teenager caught the attention of the judges with her exotic good lucks and bubbly personality.

“I didn’t expect to win at all, not even a little bit,” smiled the teenager after her win. “I was so shocked”.

Having had a taste of the fashion world, Shauna, who is originally from Shannon, says she now has her heart set on pursuing a career in modelling.

Her style icon is Rihanna but her absolute favourite model is Victoria’s Secret angel Adriana Lima. “It’s just the buzz you get off it – it’s such an adrenalin rush when you walk out in front of all the people. I’ve done a few photo shoots and I’ve done one fashion show and I love it,” she explained.

While Shauna is enjoying her time in Limerick – she works in the giftware department of Imasa on O’Connell Street – the bright lights of LA are beckoning. Her older sister Louise is a graphic designer there and Shauna fell in love with the city when she went to visit her.

“Definitely when I turn 21 I am out there,” she smiled.

“I have just got into fitness and have got a personal trainer so I’m really into that at the moment and eating healthily,” she explained.

She did allow herself a night off on Wednesday however, when she celebrated her Miss Limerick win with her mum Patricia and friends in Nancy’s bar.

According to model agent Celia Holman Lee who organised the Miss Limerick Ireland World event, the calibre of the contestants this year was exceptionally high.

“Shauna is stunning – as were all the girls.” she remarked, “They were one of the best bunches of girls we ever had. They were outstanding. It was very difficult for the judges.”

While Shauna took top honours on the night, there were also winners in various other categories - model Laura O’Shea was named runner-up in the contest, Caroline Gibbons was crowned Miss Photogenic, the best dressed prize went to Sarah Heffernan, while Ashley Costello was named Miss Congeniality.

The judging panel included Mr Ireland Leo Delaney, Olivia O’Sullivan, model Anne O’Halloran Ryan, and Niamh Mulqueen from Bothar.
