A BUSINESSWOMAN turned style blogger is aiming to raise over €1,000 for homeless services through a major dress sale.
Sharon Tucker, from Limerick city, started a style blog earlier this year, Sharon Tucker’s Style Secrets, which has quickly amassed more than 6,000 fans.
Since then she has been approached to take part in charity fashion shows in Limerick, as well as V Plus models in Dublin, which promotes women in fashion who are a size 12 to 26.
Sharon, who is proud of her size 14-16 curves, has also been signed up as a style columnist with The Finest newspaper in Tipperary.
After looking at all her dresses in her wardrobe - some of which had never been worn - she decided to sell them to raise funds for the Simon Community, which provides support for the homeless.
She came up with the idea of selling 27 dresses - a nod to the film of the same name - but now many more women across Limerick and beyond want to donate their dresses for a good cause. She began selling them online and was stunned by the response.
“I got hundreds of emails from people all over Ireland and England, and the first night stayed up until 2am to answer people’s mails. It just went crazy. There was 150 comments for one dress, with people looking to bid. I love helping people and this is what it’s all about,” said Sharon, who was also a finalist in Simply Be’s Simply Be Curvy competition, which promotes a fuller figure.
“Seeing so many homeless people in the city, especially at Christmas, is just heart-breaking. If we could all be a little bit kinder the world would be a different place,” she told the Limerick Chronicle.
Many of the dresses are priced from €20 to €40, and can be viewed on her Facebook page.
The dress sale will continue until January, and anyone interested in donating a dress can contact Sharon on 087 6609254, or on www.facebook.com/Sharontuckersstylesecrets
