LIMERICK’S oldest theatre company College Players have issued an SOS - ‘Save Our Set’.

The theatre group are specifically seeking somewhere to house the superb set built for their latest production, Leading Ladies in the University Concert Hall.

If they don’t find somewhere to store it, the huge backdrop - designed by Gerry Lombard and constructed by Mike O’Regan - will have to be dumped.

“This particular set is to die for, it is our leading lady,” explained Margaret Yelverton Corr of College Players.

“All of the time we build these magnificent sets and props, and end up having to dump them, which is mad, because they can be used over and over again,” explained Ms Corr.

The group feel that the storage of this set - and others like it - could dramatically aid the theatre and panto scene in Limerick immensely. Ms Corr said the group were seeking a warehouse space to store sets and props and possibly build new ones in future.

“This wouldn’t be just for College Players but for everybody within the theatre community in Limerick who would benefit from it,” explained Ms Corr.

“We need a space and there are so many warehouses out there in the city that have been sitting vacant for three or four years and it would be far better to have somebody in them, rather than sitting empty. That is our plea.”
