LIMERICK’s Geri Maye has been confirmed as the new co-presenter of Winning Streak by RTÉ.

LIMERICK’s Geri Maye has been confirmed as the new co-presenter of Winning Streak by RTÉ.

Ms Maye, who has presented a segment on the show over the last two years and filled in for previous host Kathryn Thomas on occasion, will join Marty Whelan as the co-presenter of the popular show.

The former Den star and presenter with Lyric FM, who has been with RTE for 14 years, said she was “absolutely thrilled” to have been chosen for the role, the new series of which will begin in January next year.

“Winning Streak is a much loved programme and there’s nothing like the buzz that comes from working on a show with a live studio audience who are all waving their banners and shouting encouragement to the contestants,” said Ms Maye, whose family originally hail from Mayo but moved to Limerick and operated Maye’s shop on Parnell Street for many years.

“It’s a joy to see the elation on peoples’ faces as they win cars, holidays and cash prizes. I’m really looking forward to working with the Winning Streak team and the National Lottery in 2012,” she added.

Bill Malone, commissioning editor for Entertainment in RTÉ, said that Ms Maye was “already a firm favourite on Winning Streak and has proved hugely popular when she has presented the programme with Marty in the past”.

Ms Maye was due to marry beau Peter Collins, 40, from Castleconnell and who runs a car wash and valeting business on the Ballysimon Road, over Christmas. The couple got engaged recently on Doonbeg beach and were due to get married in Adare this week.
