THE University of Limerick will host the inaugural lecture of adjunct professor of journalism and former editor of The Irish Times Geraldine Kennedy next month.

Prof Kennedy, who was appointed adjunct professor last September, will give her lecture entitled Challenges to Journalism on Wednesday, February 20 at 5pm in the Millstream Common Room on the university campus.

She holds six honorary doctorates from Irish universities, including one from UL which she was awarded in March last. As part of her new role with UL, Prof Kennedy will also give a number of one-on-one mentoring session with students.

“As a journalist, she was a ground-breaking and courageous investigative political reporter, whose primary duty she saw as the advocacy of accountability in public life. She has personally unveiled corruption and law breaking by leading figures in politics at the highest levels in national newspaper journalism,” said Tom Felle, director of journalism at UL.
