TWO of Limerick’s brightest fashion talents have been named as two of the five finalists in the 2012 Gillette Venus ‘Design the Dress of Your Dreams’ competition.

Laura Jennings and Greta Lelyte, students of Limerick College of Art and Design were hand-picked by one of Ireland’s top fashion designers, Joanne Hynes, as two of Ireland’s most promising designers.

This year, fashion design students were asked to design a dress reflects and accentuates the natural beauty of a woman’s skin, as well as complementing the water inspired colour scheme of the new Venus ProSkin razor.

“The Gillette Venus ‘Design the Dress of your Dreams’ provides a huge platform to Irish fashion students for their work, so I felt I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take part,” said Laura who is from Westport, County Mayo.

“Winning would mean the world to me, as it would help me to get my name know in the Irish fashion industry,” she added.

For Greta meanwhile, to win the competition would be “a great opportunity” to design for a big client such as Gillette Venus. “And hopefully it will improve my skills as a designer. Winning would be amazing, but even participating in a competition like this is a great experience because I get to make the design I have created into an actual garment, and it will be a worthy addition to my design portfolio,” said Greta who is from Tralee.

Each of the shortlisted candidate’s final creations will be unveiled and showcased by Ireland’s top models on Wednesday, May 6, where the overall winner will be chosen by Joanne Hynes.

The Gillette Venus ‘Design the Dress of your Dreams’ winner will be catapulted into the spotlight with extensive media coverage around their creation, providing the platform to launch an exciting fashion career. The winner will also receive €1,000 towards their fashion career and the Gillette Venus crystal trophy.
