THE Pery Hotel on Glentworth Street will be transformed into a tropical paradise later this month when it plays host to a benefit night for Friends of the Elderly Limerick.
Local fundraiser Tina O’Gorman - who has to date raised almost €1 million for local charities - is organising a Hawaiian night for the charity.
There will be guest appearances on the night from Richard Lynch of Ilovelimerick and drag sensation Celine. Music will be provided by DJ Tex, with dancing late into the night.
There will also be numerous spot prizes to be won at the event, including a 42-inch plasma TV.
Tina is urging everyone to get into the spirit of things and come dressed up for the night. Costumes for the event can be purchased from Colm Deegan of Deegan Balloons and there will be a photographer on hand on the night to capture the moment for posterity.
After 34 years organising fundraising events, Tina O’Gorman, who hails from Pineview Gardens in Moyross, is now just €9870 short of the €1 million mark. She recently conducted a bucket collection for the Friends of the Elderly and in October plans to run a fancy dress event, which should help her achieve her target.
The primary aim of Friends of the Elderly, a non profit, volunteer based group is to give elderly people a better social life so as to prevent them from being isolated in this high tech world.
The Hawaiian night kicks off at 9pm and tickets cost €15 (which includes finger food), with support tickets costing €5.
