LIMERICK’S annual Riverfest extravaganza takes place this weekend with a packed schedule of events over four days.

LIMERICK’S annual Riverfest extravaganza takes place this weekend with a packed schedule of events over four days.

It is estimated that up to €20m will be generated in visitor spend over the weekend, with more than 40,000 people expected to enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend in the city.

Whatever you fancy this weekend, the city has got it all, including the largest BBQ in the country, a free live open air rock concert, a water sports extravaganza.

Running until Monday evening the festival aims to showcase “all that is great about Limerick city”.

With Limerick being the uncrowned sporting capital and a European City of Sport for 2011, thousands of rugby fans will again descend on the city this afternoon see Munster take on Harlequins in the Amlin Cup semi-final at Thomond Park Stadium.

On Sunday thousands more will run off the excesses of the weekend in the Great Limerick Run with three courses for every level of fitness.

Other highlights include the Continental Market, The Great Limerick BBQ, Limerick Live at Arthur’s Quay Park, The Coronas at the Big Top at the Milk Market and a spectacular fireworks display
