FOR the first time ever, young ladies hoping to progress from the Miss Limerick World pageant to the Miss Ireland World competition will no longer have to meet a height requirement.
In the past, for young women to be selected for the competition they had to stand at least 5’ 7.5†tall.
“The height requirement has knocked out so many beautiful girls in my time,†explained model agent Celia Holman Lee who organises the Miss Limerick competition.
“There was always, always a height factor in relation to these competitions. I do remember being at the Miss World a long time ago in London and I remember looking at Miss China and Miss India and they weren’t that tall but that was back a long, long time ago †she emphasised.
“For as long as I can remember, height was always a requirement but not any more which is wonderful. The current Miss Tipperary and Miss Ireland, Aoife Walsh, brought about the change. The girls can be any height now, it doesn’t matter.â€
And, in another break with tradition, the Miss Limerick and Mr Limerick competition will be held this year on the same night.
“This is fantastic,†Celia continued. “This is the competition that our very own Kamal Ibrahim went through.â€
While a date is yet to be fixed for the Miss Limerick and Mr Limerick competitions - they will take place in the summer - those interested in taking part can contact the Holman Lee Agency.
Miss Limerick will go forward to compete at the Miss Ireland World competition later in the summer.
