Adare ready for Weekend of Welcomes
ADARE will put on its broadest smile and roll out the welcome mat in style later this month when the entire village opens its doors for the Adare Weekend of Welcomes festival.

ADARE will put on its broadest smile and roll out the welcome mat in style later this month when the entire village opens its doors for the Adare Weekend of Welcomes festival.

The festival is part of The Gathering 2013 and was originally planned as a Fitzgerald clan gathering. But local interest has transformed it into a much bigger and more inclusive event, involving the wider community.

“Adare is not just famous for being Ireland’s prettiest village. We are also famous for the warmest of welcomes we give to the people who visit us from near and far,” said Anita Higgins, general manager of Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort, at the launch of the festival programme this week. “This festival is about celebrating that welcome by creating a weekend of special events which will showcase the very best that Adare has to offer.”

Guided village tours, concerts, genealogy workshops, a medieval banquet at Desmond Castle and a Victorian afternoon tea in the formal gardens at Adare Manor are some of the highlights of the festival which kicks off on Thursday, June 27 and ends with a Fourth of July barbecue at Adare Manor.

There will also be a Knights and Maidens children’s camp running at Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel.

“In addition to the programme of events, village traders will be transforming their shop windows in a bid to bring a new burst of colour to the main street,” Ms Higgins continued. “Each window will be designed in a way which depicts Medieval Adare with the best display winning the inaugural ‘Adare Village of Welcomes Salver’ which will be presented by Geraldine, Countess of Dunraven.”

The full programme is available on the Adare Weekend of Welcomes website and bookings are now being taken for festival events, including the Medieval Banquet. Bookings for the Victorian Afternoon Tea and the barbecue can be secured by emailing reservations@adaremanor.com
