THE Milk Market is to play host to a showcase for young artists in the city this Sunday.

As thousands of hurling fans descend on the city for the Limerick-Tipperary match, music and dance at the market will get supporters in high spirits.

Dancers from the Make a Move festival, poets from the Stanzas group and members of Garryowen Comhaltas will perform under the roof the market from 12.30pm.

Organised by metropolitan mayor Michael Sheahan - who also chairs the Market Trustees - it is hoped the event will showcase what Limerick has to offer throughout the summer.

“I am always thinking outside the box. We are going to have 30,000 people in the city on that morning. What do we have to offer them? We have a wonderful Milk Market. So let’s put together an event for a younger age group with a wider product of dance music, while still keeping the traditional aspects,” Cllr Sheahan said.

The showcase of work heralds a series of festive events that are due to take place in Limerick over the Summer months. Ashlea Rondezai and her co dancers will give a taste of what is to come during the Make a Move festival which takes place in Limerick City over the first weekend in July.
