LIMERICK will host one of the biggest fashion shows in the country next month, with one lucky fashion student being awarded a prestigious placement in Paris with Irish designer Sharon Wauchob.
The Limerick School of Art & Design, in partnership with Bord Gáis Networks, will showcase the awe-inspiring designs of 27 graduates on the night in the Milk Market, with up to 500 people viewing their creations on the catwalk.
Paris-based Irish designer, Sharon Wauchob, will fly in specially for this event and showcase her latest collection and select one lucky graduate to work with her on a six month placement in her studio in Paris.
Limerick City of Culture is supporting the event as a mark of LSAD’s contribution to the city and the fashion industry in general.
The school, now under the auspices of Limerick Institute of Technology, has been named one of the top 50 fashion schools in the world, with luminaries including Joanne Hynes, Una Burke and Danielle Romerill, Merle O’Grady and Niamh Lunny.
“Events like this are crucial in highlighting the enormous talent we have in our region,” said Mike Fitzpatrick, director of Limerick City of Culture,
“We will continue to invest in this talent through the expansion plan for LSAD which will include a new fashion incubation centre called the Irish Fashion Incubation Limerick for designers who can avail of studios and seminars to further up-skill.
“LSAD is the only Irish college selected to show at London Graduate Week in June so it is with huge pride that we introduce these graduates of 2014,” he said.
Anne Melinn, head of fashion at the school, said this show aims to be their most exciting yet and will showcase why LSAD is an international centre for fashion education and excellence.
