THE grand old dame of panto is to be joined by both a veteran and a newcomer to the form - and the results promise to be side-splitting.
While Twink is the Fairy Godmother in the University Concert Hall’s panto Cinderella, which also features Dustin the Turkey, the show might well be stolen by Limerick actors Myles Breen and Richard Lynch, playing the Ugly Sisters to Leanne Moore’s star turn as the lead.
The duo, Nicole and Tulisa - in an overt nod to the X-Factor - are a dream team for the large scale panto, which opens in the UCH on December 21.
“Rehearsals are going really well, it is a lovely bunch of people. Between some of us old heads, and a lot of the newcomers, we have so many years of panto experience between us,” explains Myles, with something of a slight understatement, given he has 20 years of experience in pantos in Limerick.
“I am bringing up the total on that a bit,” he admits.
His co-star, Richard Lynch of ILoveLimerick.com fame, is positively brimming with delight to be involved in the Robert C Kelly production, the first fully professional panto ever to take place in the Mid West region.
“I have never done a panto before,” he explains. “The amount of work! We just choreographed a four minute chase scene this morning with all these different musical elements, Chariots of Fire, the Looney Tunes, you will be weak laughing, I swear to god.
“Myles and I are really enjoying it - and they let us bring all the Limerick-isms into the script and we spend the show attacking each other and singing songs,” he adds.
Intense rehearsals for the show began recently, pushing the cast and a huge team of dancers to their limits.
“This is a massive production - the dancers are amazing,” says Richard. “It is brilliant - it is going to be great fun for all the family. I’m having a ball.”
