LIMERICK College of Further Education made the jump into the online radio world with the launch of new station iMix last week.
The launch of the station marked a significant milestone in LCFE’s history and local radio station Live 95FM marked the moment by broadcasting their popular Limerick Today programme from the Mulgrave Street’s studios on Friday last.
iMix will stream 24 hours a day and will be available via online applications and their website www.imixradio.ie. The establishment of a new broadcast media suite to support the station represents a significant investment on the college’s part into enhancing media facilities at LCFE.
Speaking at the launch, college director Pat Maunsell praised the effort that had gone into establishing the studio and online station.
“We are very proud with what we have achieved in the college since we began delivering Further Education programmes here,” he said.
“Our achievements are in no small part due to the hard work and dedication of an excellent staff, both past and present. I’m delighted to finally see this development being formally launched today,” he added.
The college boasts in the region of 1,200 full-time and 2,500 part-time learners. The radio studio facility that will now play host to the online station underwent a major renovation last year in order to bring it up to today’s industry standards.
The online station will provide 10 hours of live programming on a weekly basis during the academic year, with all content to be presented by learners on the FETAC Level 6 Advanced Media Production course.
The new broadcast media suite consists of two studios, one for programme pre-production, while the second is an on-air studio which boasts a top of the range RCS master control play-out system.
LCFE are still accepting applications for the new FETAC Level 6 Advanced Media Production/Radio course for the new academic year. Check out their website for more information - www.lcfe.ie.
