LIMERICK’S renowned Torch Players will take to the boards in Rathkeale for one night only this Sunday.
And in their first visit to Rathkeale, they will be showcasing the acting talent of Ger Liston, an engineer with Limerick County Council who is based in Rathkeale and who is well known throughout West Limerick as a founder and active member of the Ardagh Drama Group.
Ger and five other cast members under the direction of Maurice O’Sullivan, will perform Moonshine by Waterford writer Jim Nolan.
The play, Ger Liston explains, is a comedy, both haunting and hilarious. It involves a Church of Ireland minister about to lose his parish and his wife and an error-prone undertaker with a bad habit of mixing up his dead clients. But he has an equally bad habit of losing his cast members in the Shakespeare play which he is trying to produce as part of the onstage action. The other cast members include Micheal O’Dubhghaill of Ros na Ruan fame, Pat Kelly from Bulgaden, Jeanne O’Connor from Castleisland and Limerick’s Peter Hayes and Joanne O’Brien.
The Torch Players are coming to Rathkeale at the invitation of Rathkeale Community Council and the curtain goes up on Moonshine at 8pm this Sunday in the Rathkeale Community Centre. Tickets for what is a fund-raising event cost €10.
