TYPICALLY, there isn’t much in common between a Yamaha racing bike and a designer dress. However next week the organisers of the Athea road races will be hosting West Limerick’s fashion glitterati in a bid to raise much-needed funds for next year’s motorcycle races.

The fashion show will be taking place at The Gables bar on Friday November 4, and will showcase the autumn/winter collections at some of West Limerick and North Kerry’s finest boutiques. Proceeds from the event will go towards bringing the road races back to Athea in 2012, following their triumphant return earlier this summer.

The road races had to be cancelled in 2010 due to financial reasons, but attracted in excess of 10,000 visitors to Athea when they returned this July. Next Friday’s event will feature clothes and accessories from some of the finest local boutiques and clothes shops.

Among the models who will be hitting a specially-erected catwalk on the night will be school children from the parish, who will be showing off boys’ and girls’ communion wear.

A door prize of costume jewellery will be sponsored by Sinead Doyle, while there will be raffle prizes available on the night including hotel breaks, pottery, gift vouchers and much more. Guests on the night can look forward to a pink champagne and strawberry reception on arrival, along with music from a strong quartet.

Tickets for the event are €10 each, and can be bought in advance by contacting Joanne on 087 0523288, Margaret on 087 9395273 or The Gables on 068 42611. Pre-booking is advised. Doors open at 7pm, and the fashion show starts at 8pm.
