UP TO 100 lucky men and women got a sneak preview of Passion 2014 in the Woodlands House Hotel on Monday night.

Organisers will recreate the Passion of Our Lord over 24 hours in Nicker, Pallagreen on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, April 17 and April 18.

The corporate night was held to raise awareness and encourage more to get involved and support the mammoth project. It is a world first.

After entering the Woodlands’ main function room invited guests were transported back to the garden of Gethsemane. The 30 minute preview included scenes from Jesus’ trial and being held in captivity in the grotto.

There wasn’t a sound as Mary (Jennifer Mulcahy) weeped into the chest of Jesus (Garry Fraher) who was chained to a tree.

“His blood is on your hands. Can you not see? Shame on you, shame on all of you, he is my child, mine. Jesus, don’t do this to me, I beg you. I am your mother, please don’t ask this of me,” exclaimed Mary.

You could have heard a pin drop until the performance finished with two rounds of applause. Mike Gleeson, of the media/promotions team, said Passion 2014 was the vision of one man - Eamonn Harty.

“It is a testament to Eamonn that not one person we have asked for help has said no,” said Mr Gleeson, who praised the cast and all the team who are rehearsing five nights a week, and thanked the Fitzgerald family for the venue.

Mr Harty, producer and director of Passion 2014, said: “We have a dream, we have a dream to do something magnificent in a tiny little parish. That was 60 per cent of what they are capable of.

“They are going to connect with the audience. You think you are coming to watch, you think you are coming to listen but you are coming to live this. You are going to hear people saying ‘I don’t want him to go up on the cross, I don’t want him to be crucified.”

Mr Harty said what they are doing has never been done before.“It is scary. We can’t talk to anybody. We are blazing a trail. We want 10,000, to attend, nothing less, in Pallas and we’re not going to give up until we achieve that,” he said.
