TWO Limerick secondary schools are giving girls all over Limerick an excuse for a great night out - they are hosting the first major spring/summer fashion show of the year.
Students from Laurel Hill Colaiste and Laurel Hill Secondary School are getting ready to strut their stuff on the catwalk of the Strand Hotel for the Spring/Summer Gala Fashion Show hosted by the Holman Lee Model Agency. “I think it is the longest running fashion show in Limerick. We have always had a tradition here that it is a joint venture between the two schools – Laurel Hill Secondary and Laurel Hill Colaiste,” explained Aedin Ni Bhriain principal of Laurel Hill Colaiste.
“We have models from both schools on the catwalk and teachers as well. Celia and her models are there and some of her models are past pupils of the schools.”
The social event, Ms Ni Bhriain explained, is always a highlight of the school calendar.
“Those events are very important. Looking back on your school days you remember those social events. Obviously you learn a lot when you are at school but it the special nights like that you take with you in your memories when you leave a school.”
And according to Ms Ni Bhrian they will take the tips that model agent Celia gives them, with them for life.
“I think it is very nice for students to get the opportunity to do something outside of the world of academia which will give a life skill. Celia talks to them about deportment and about how to look well. For anyone to walk on a stage it takes a certain amount of confidence so it is good for them to get that opportunity.
I myself am a past pupil and I can remember as a student that this was a big thing.”
Among the leading Limerick city fashion stores exhibiting their 2013 Spring/Summer collections are Brown Thomas, Gretta Gibbs, O’Donnell’s, Amee’s, Imasa, Stitch, Tippe Canoe, Pamela Scott, Connolly Man, & Hartmann Opticians will accessorise the newly refined looks with chic sunglasses. From Adare Isobel, Catherine Mc Cormack and Serendipity will display. Great sportswear will be shown by So Hockey of Ballycummin. Award winning Hugh Campbell Hair Group will create hairstyles to finesse the new season trends.
The fashion show has been running for 34 years and is one of the biggest in Munster attracting an annual audience of well over 400 people.
The show is generously supported by local fashion houses and businesses. The funds raised are used for the benefit of present and future generations of Laurel Hill Coláiste and Laurel Hill Secondary School students.
Laurel Hill students will also step out in the latest collections from Brown Thomas. A promise of superb spot prizes completes a perfect excuse for a great girl’s night out!
The venue is the Strand Hotel on March 7, at 8pm. Tickets at €15 are available from both schools. Contact 061-313636/ 061-319383.
