WINNING Voice of Ireland judge, pop star and heart throb, Bressie - aka Niall Breslin - is to play a September gig in the Big Top @ the Milk Market.
The high profile musician sold out a gig in Dolan’s Warehouse just a matter of weeks ago and it is testament to his surge in popularity that he has been booked by the venue to play in the Milk Market on Friday September 28.
While guests have yet to be announced for the gig, it is rumoured that contestants from the hit RTE show may indeed join Bressie for the gig in Limerick’s top outdoor venue.
Dolan’s, who book the shows in the Milk Market, said they were “delighted” to be welcoming Bressie back to Limerick after his recent show and pointed to an “unprecedented demand for tickets” for the recent gig as paving the way for the Big Top show.
Bressie is fresh from Voice success having seen his charge Pat Byrne win the show on Sunday night last, but it is his own rise in popularity that has been a hallmark of the popularity of the RTE show.
However, the former Blizzards front man, now turned solo after leaving his band behind for the bright lights of London in early 2010, also saw his debut solo album, the chart-conquering Colourblind Stereo, make a deep impact in Ireland on its release last year.
There the former rugby player landed a job with Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment as a songwriter, where, he told the Chronicle last year, he discovered a “fantastic creative energy”.
His first single Can’t Stay Young (Forever) proved to be a massive airplay hit and showed his new direction - eschewing the pop-rock-indie referencing Blizzards tunes for a bouncy, 80s-type pop. It was a brave move that was driven more by his love of melody, he explained.
“I didn’t necessarily have a lot of self-belief in going off and doing something completely different, but I love sitting down and working out a song, I love melody.”
Tickets for the Big Top show go on sale this Thursday at 10am from Dolan’s and Ticketmaster.
