VALERIE Campbell - the mother of international supermodel Naomi Campbell - will be one of the special guests at this year’s second annual Limerick International Fashion Student Awards.
After the inaugural event last year, the student awards night - which attracted entries from around the world - has been widened to three days to become the Limerick Style Festival.
Incorporating the Limerick International Fashion Student Awards, it will run from Wednesday, October 22 to Friday, October 24.
The student awards, which this year have received sponsorship from Limerick’s city as City of Culture, amongst others, will take place on Thursday, October 23 in St. Mary’s Cathedral, with a spectacular fashion show and awards ceremony showcasing the designs of the competing international student designers.
Speaking at the launch in the Hunt Museum this week, model agent and organiser Celia Holman Lee said she is “so happy” the event is going ahead this year, thanks to a number of key sponsors.
The competition is aimed at fashion students from around the world and this year entries have been received from colleges and universities, not only in Ireland, but from all across the UK and as far afield as Dubai, India, Singapore, Argentina, Kenya, Sri Lanka and the USA, making it a truly international event.
The overall winner of the 2014 Limerick International Fashion Student Awards will receive a €10,000 prize sponsored by Brown Thomas and an internship with the well-known international fashion brand Frank Lyman Design in Montreal, Canada.
Ms Campbell, mother of renowned international supermodel Naomi will be a special guest at the Limerick International Fashion Awards, thanks to Social & Personal Magazine.
The Limerick Style Festival will commence on the evening of Wednesday, October 22 with ‘Sparkle & Shine’, a fashion show hosted by renowned broadcaster Brendan Courtney and dinner in Marco Polo restaurant, featuring leading fashion retailers from around Limerick with the proceeds going to the Symptomatic Breast Unit at the University Hospital Limerick.
On Friday, October 23 there will be an all-day fashion trail, with various fashion retailers having pop up fashion shows, along with special offers and discounts. This initiative is supported by the Limerick Marketing Company who are responsible for developing and promoting the Limerick brand.
Last year’s winner was Caroline Mulhern, 24, from the University of Salford, who received a bursary of €10,000 and spent her internship in New York with fashion designer Don O’Neill.
