FREE flights to meet Santa were booked out within hours of the offer going out from Ryanair and Shannon Airport on Tuesday.
While 4,500 seats were made available for a special Christmas treat, over 15,000 applications were made over the phone and on email within three hours.
“However, there is still an opportunity for those wishing to be one of the magical flights, which will see Santa hop on board at 15,000 feet to meet the excited children, as a number of seats have been reserved for a draw for those who were unsuccessful. A number of seats on the flights have also been reserved for children with special needs,” explained a spokesman at Shannon Airport, the only location where Ryanair is offering Santa flights over the next two weekends.
“We have just 4,500 seats and people who were lucky enough to make the cut will have heard from us hopefully by close of business on Wednesday,” said Shannon Group CEO Neil Pakey.
“For those who were outside that cut and for those who are still e-mailing their applications, we will enter their names into a draw that will take place early next week for the remaining seats.”
Phone lines are now closed after becoming jammed within minutes. For those still interested in the draw, booking forms are on the airport website and must be e-mailed to email@example.com. For children under 10, there must be a minimum of one adult accompanying every three children. Standard Ryanair conditions apply. All terms and conditions are available on the airport website.
The short flights will operate two and from Shannon six times a day, allowing just enough time for Santa to hop on board the flight and greet children.
