LIMERICK’S Rubberbandits are set to play not one, but two high profile gigs at next weekend’s Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally - (September 2-4).
The duo will perform at 5pm on Saturday in the largest tented stage at the music and arts festival, as well as a late night appearance on the Salty Dog stage - a ‘Dirty Rave’ featuring MC Daddy Earl. The faded red shipwreck, lying in the woods of Stradbally, also plays host to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Ham Sandwich over the three days of the festival.
Fellow Limerick folk, comedian Karl Spain, The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra and Ivan St John, also return to the rolling fields of Stradbally this year.
The festival boasts an extremely impressive line-up this year, including headliners Arcade Fire, Chemical Brothers, Pulp, Interpol, PJ Harvey and Underworld, as well as Bob Geldof, Jape, Mogwai and many more.
The comedy line-up includes David O’Doherty, Dead Cat Bounce and Ardal O’Hanlon, while ‘debate, drama and dreaming spires’ will continue at Mindfield, with the Leviathan debates hosted by economist David McWilliams and featuring Bob Geldoy, while there are literary, word and theatre stages, featuring Booker Prize winners John Banville and Roddy Doyle. There is a dedicated food area for the first time ever this year - an area which will serve as an homage to all things gastronomic called The Theatre of Food.
