Blas Summer School returns to UL

THE Blas Summer School of Irish Traditional Music and Dance returns to the Irish World Academy in UL for the 15th successive year this June, bringing a veritable “who’s who” of the finest in Irish traditional music to the summer school as tutors, including Donal Lunny.

Blas, overseen by Ernestine Healy, has firmly established itself as one of Ireland’s most prestigious summer schools, drawing students from all over the world to study to spend two weeks gaining one-to-one access with the finest in Irish musicians, including renowned Irish fiddle player Martin Hayes, who continues as artist-in-residence at the academy this year.

Other tutors include Donal Lunny, Dennis Cahill and Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin - Professor of Music at the Irish World Academy - dancers Breándán de Gallaí, Michael Ryan and many more.

The Blas public concerts are hugely popular and include Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill on Wednesday June 22 and Dónal Lunny, Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, John Carty, Séamus Begley and guests on Thursday June 30.
