GATHER by the Feale, Abbeyfeale’s new-look summer festival, got off to a lively start this Wednesday with a fun, new twist on the theme of Vikings.

The Viking Plunder Run, involving teams from local sports clubs, was the opening act in a programme which runs until next Sunday.

And the Viking theme continues this Thursday evening when the Viking Bachelor Auction takes place. The auction idea proved to be a huge success last year and is expected to lead to a lot of naughty fun again this year. This Thursday also sees the first of two evenings of contest in the battle to win the Feale’s Fittest Family with family groups drawn from parishes all along the river
Feale.

A farmers market with food and craft stalls will run on Friday and Saturday and there will be live music on the gig rig in the Square on Saturday evening. Other events include a mammoth tug-of-war for seniors, women and under-21s as well as sheaf-tossing. Saturday is Tag Rugby day with a barbecue and Sunday is billed as a Family Fun Day.

The activities will include sporting and novelty events and in the evening, there will be a Battle of the DJs in the gig-rig in the Square. Other events include workshops for teenagers and a giant treasure hunt.
