A SPECIAL concert in memory of a Limerick girl is to feature Red Hurley, Dickie Rock and Brendan Grace together for one night only.

It will take place in the Lime Tree Theatre on Friday, April 25 at 8pm. All the monies raised will go towards Clare’s Wish Foundation - the only Irish charity granting wishes to adults and children with life threatening conditions.

It was set up by Doon man Kevin Clancy last year. It is named after his late sister Clare, who passed away several years ago aged just 24 with Spina Bifida.

Clare was a big fan of Red Hurley and at one of his concerts the singer spent a lot of time with Clare and sang to her. He autographed an album with the message, ”To my darling Clare, with all my love, thank you for your thoughts and everything, with love, Red Hurley.”

Clare’s wish came true that day and she never forgot it. Neither did Kevin. He saw how much this meant to his late sister and now hopes to replicate moments like this for others in similar positions.

Kevin and Red have stayed in touch and when he told him about the concert Red was only glad to help.

“Dickie and I have worked together many times and Brendan and I have worked together many times but we have never done the likes of what we are going to do in Limerick.

“Brendan sings as well and plays a bit of guitar. He is very popular with the public and very popular in Limerick. Dickie is going to do a 20 minute slot, once Brendan gets on he cant stop! The three of us will get up and sing a few songs together, we will have a good bit of craic. It will be a great night,” said Red, who will also have a full band.

Red remembers Clare very well. The time he spent with her meant the world to Clare.

“I still have the silver plate I was given as a thank you for doing the first charity show for them. It meant the world to me too because you don’t just get in to this business to make money, you get in to this business because you love it and when you can do something that people feel good about, you get a great little buzz going home knowing that you have done something really decent,” said Red.

Kevin said when he set up Clare’s Wish Foundation last October Red instantly asked what he could do to help.

“So on April 25 at the Lime Tree Theatre Red bring his hits concert to Limerick. His very special guests on the night, Brendan Grace and Dickie Rock will also hopefully make an appearance.

“This is the very first time these three guys have appeared on a Limerick stage together for one show and Clare’s Wish Foundation are so thankful to Red for bringing this show to Limerick,” said Kevin, who stresses that all the money will go into making the dreams of adults and children come true.
