AS their budding friendship with Russell Crowe grows ever stronger, popular Limerick band Size2Shoes have filmed scenes for new Hollywood blockbuster Winter’s Tale in New York with the world famous actor.

The duo - brothers Owen and Michael ‘Moley’ Ó Súilleabháin - were snapped by photographers aiming their lenses at Crowe on the set of A Beautiful Mind writer Akiva Goldsman’s directorial debut, which also features Will Smith and Colin Farrell and is set in Victorian-era Manhattan.

Sons of world-renowned composer and head of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in UL Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin and sean-nós singer Nóirín Ní Riain, the brothers moved to New York earlier this year to pursue their musical career, having previously forged links with Richard Harris’ old pal Crowe, who is listed as an executive producer on their new album Happy Songs.

Since arriving in New York they have become firm friends with the New Zealand-born Australian actor, who has been based in the city filming first Noah and now fantasy story Winter’s Tale for some time.

On Crowe’s recommendation, the Ó Súilleabháins were cast as his henchmen in the film, in which the 48 year old plays gangster boss Pearly Soames.

“Russell told us to go and meet the director Akiva Goldsman to see if we could be cast as his henchmen in the movie,” explained Michael from New York this week.

“He went with it and now we have two nonspeaking roles as servants and shadows of the demonic villain Pearly. It has been great and we are heading out on set again this week,” he added.

The duo have also been performing on stage with Crowe in the city at his Indoor Garden Party gigs, appearing with Sting in October and just last weekend with Crowe’s Les Misérables co-star Hugh Jackman.
